Choosing my book signing locations

Lemme start by saying I’m an introvert, so putting myself out there like that was hard as hell. Between December 12, 2019–when Krak Teet was released–til December 21st, I had three signings. I didn’t just pick any ole location though. I was very intentional.

Diaspora Marketplace: December 12, 2019

510 MLK Blvd. Savannah, GA 31401

The first signing was gon’ be at Diaspora Marketplace. Periodt! Mr. Richard Shinhoster, the owner, has been holding me down for a while. All of my book titles are in there. I love the vibe in there. And shoutout to Chev for filming me!

He and his family has beaucoup history in the city. Matta fact: Diaspora Marketplace is the ONLY business left on that street from back when MLK used to be West Broad Street; it was a record shop backintheday.

Sankofa House: December 15, 2019

1119 E. 40th St. Savannah, GA 31404

This is where you go to recalibrate, to get your mind/body/spirit back in harmony. It’s a healing house. I love this house and the woman who captains it, Cheyenne (aka Kamilah Kamaat).

When the idea to do three signings came to mind, I knew the Sankofa House would be one of the three.

Beach Institute: December 21, 2019

502 E. Harris St. Savannah, GA 31401

The Beach Institute speaks for itself really. It’s an OG in the city. I actually briefly discuss the Beach Institute in the book. And the opportunity came to me. Ericka Phillips–a historian, genealogist, wellness advocate, and Beach Institute volunteer–hit me up on Instagram asking if I’d like to have a signing there.

My response: Hellll yeah! Listen, the grounds are sacred. You can feel it, and it’s really hard to explain; you just gotta experience it.

Needless to say, after the three signings (which included beaucoup interviews and even a documentary filming in between the three), I was beyond exhausted…but even more grateful!

If you were there, thank you!
